Arenal to Tortuguero: Private Driver

Time: about 5 hours 30 minutes to the boat launch (Tortuguero itself has no road access; the final leg is by boat). Priced per vehicle, never per person: message us for a quote to your exact route. A domestic flight is available for the return leg, about 20 minutes.

There's no shared shuttle option on this route: it's private driver or a bespoke transfer, which keeps the long day comfortable and on your schedule.

Stops along the way

One hour of free wait time is included, popular for:

• A stop in the banana- and pineapple-growing lowlands of the Caribbean slope.
• A photo stop along one of the rivers on the way to the boat launch.
• A break before the boat crossing into the Tortuguero canals.

Longer stops can be arranged for an additional fee, priced when you book.

Road notes

This is one of the longer transfers on our network, crossing from the northern volcanic highlands to the Caribbean lowlands, with some unpaved sections near the boat launch. We advise against driving after dark, and June–November rain can add potholes on the mountain stretches.

Vehicles

A sedan or SUV covers 1 to 4 travelers with standard luggage; a premium van fits 5 to 8; a Sprinter is available for larger groups or extra bags. Child seats are available on request.
