Stops along the way

One hour of free wait time is included, popular for:

• Lake Arenal viewpoints as you head northwest.
• A stop in Cañas or Liberia for a meal or a break.
• A photo stop as the road nears the Pacific coast.

Longer stops can be arranged for an additional fee, priced when you book.

Road notes

The route runs through mountains before dropping into Guanacaste's flatter, drier terrain, with a paved but sometimes potholed final stretch into Tamarindo. We advise against driving after dark, and June–November rain can bring potholes on the mountain stretch out of Arenal.

Vehicles

A sedan or SUV covers 1 to 4 travelers with standard luggage; a premium van fits 5 to 8; a Sprinter is available for larger groups, surfboards or extra luggage. Child seats are available on request.
