Participants are picked up from their Arenal area hotel and driven to the Lake Arenal Dam, a ride that takes approximately 20-30 minutes. Once here, they’ll board a large boat and enjoy a ride across the lake. This section of the tour is agreeable, as it allows for wonderful views of the Arenal Volcano and the surrounding hillsides. The boat ride takes about 15 minutes and ends in the small town of El Castillo.
Participants will de-board the boat and be greeted by guides and horses. Their guides will acquaint them with the horses and once everyone is comfortable, the ride will begin. The trail hugs the shores of Lake Arenal and provides unrivaled views of both the lake and volcano. The ride lasts around 2 hours and ends in the small town of Río Chiquito. Once here, the final leg of the journey – a 1.5-hour taxi ride to Monteverde – begins. Guests are dropped off at their hotels in Monteverde.
Throughout the entire journey, participants’ luggage is shuttled along for them, allowing for a hassle-free experience.
In total, this tour takes around 3.5 hours to complete. It can be arranged to run in the opposite direction, from Monteverde to Arenal. Group sizes are small (2-6 people), and tours depart Arenal at 8:30 AM and Monteverde at 8:00 AM.
