Arenal Hanging Bridges Tour

The Arenal Hanging Bridges are one of the most beautiful and captivating hanging-bridge projects in Costa Rica. The bridges’ location – which rests directly in front of the famed Arenal Volcano – is set along a corridor followed by migratory birds from both North and South America. Over 60 species of birds are known to visit this area, providing visitors with an excellent chance to do some birding while exploring this section of the rainforest.

The hanging bridge circuit includes both bridges and trails. The bridges overlook a dense canopy – allowing visitors to peer directly into the upper reaches of the forest – and have fantastic views of the Arenal Volcano in the background. Trails connect the bridges and run through primary rainforest. Along these, visitors can get a closer look at the insects, reptiles, birds, flowers, plants and trees that call this forest home. Walking at a slow pace, the complete circuit will take most people about two hours to complete. It is possible to push wheelchairs and baby-strollers along the bridges and trails.

There are a number of tours available

An early-morning bird watching tour affords visitors the best chance of spotting birds. The tour begins at 6:00 AM. Shuttles provide transportation from hotels between 5:30-5:45 AM.

A daytime, naturalist-guided tour introduces travelers to the rich biodiversity of Costa Rica’s rainforest. The guide will spot wildlife and help tour takers learn more about the intricate ecosystem that is being explored. Shuttles can be arranged for pick up at 7:30 AM and 12:30 PM; they’ll return three hours later. These shuttles cost $12 per person, round trip (However, they cost $16 per person from the Arenal Observatory Lodge, $25 per person from the Hotel Tilajari, and $27 per person from La Mansion Inn).

During a night tour, visitors may see frogs, insects, small mammals and sleeping birds. A guide leads this tour, which begins at 6:00 PM. Shuttles provide transportation from between 5:30-5:45 PM.

There is an onsite restaurant where visitors can enjoy a tasty meal or refreshment while looking out at the Arenal Volcano. If the weather turns rainy, there are free ponchos available.
