Arenal Volcano August 27th 2006 from Arenal Springs
After being disappointed with the clouds on the previous night I was amazed to see the volcano crystal clear from Arenal Springs at about 5am so I was able to capture a few shots at dawn as the sky transitioned into a beautiful bright day.
There were two large gas and steam exhausts between 5 am and 6:30 am as you can tell by the white puffy streaks on the right side of the crater. These are quite nice to watch as they appear and within a few minutes have totally evaporated.
To determine the current lava viewing angle you can use our Arenal volcano map. Also on our list of Arenal hotels, be sure to click the 'lava view hotels' link there to see only those hotels with a direct lava view, as this changes depending on the volcano activity. This page also lists a number of La Fortuna hotels.
