Rancho Margot
Rancho Margot is an eco tourism project that flanks the shores of Lake Arenal and is at the foot hills of the famous conservation effort the Children's Eternal Rain Forest (Bosque de Los Ninos). A combination of sustainable hotel practices, organic farming and creative engineering make Rancho Margot more than just a place to rest your head at night.
Rancho Margot is owned by the Sostheim family who have worked tirelessly to develop the environment as one of the most advanced Sustainable and self-sufficient tourism projects in Costa Rica. Beyond Sustainable hotel practices Rancho Margot also is a leader in conservation and entered into an agreement with the Monteverde Conservation League and created the Rancho Margot Ranger Station for the Children’s Eternal Forest.
On the hillside of the Rancho Margot property is where the 10 deluxe bungalows are located.The bungalows are equipped to receive couples or families of up to 4 people. Each bungalow has its own terrace on which you may enjoy the great view, relax on your hammock and read a book. Besides the Deluxe Bungalows there are budget options in the Bunkhouse where students, volunteers and travelers on a budget can enjoy the beauty of Rancho Margot.
Beyond the hotel, restaurant and tourist attractions available at Rancho Margot there is a fully working Dairy Farm, Pig Farm, Chicken Farm, Organic Vegetable and Fruit garden, Medicinal Plant Garden, A bio-digester responsible for generating the Farms natural gas need as well as a hydro electric power generator responsible for maintaining the energy needs of the farm.
Rancho Margot also has an on site Animal Rescue and Reintegration Center. The center receives all kinds of animals that have been rescued by local authorities (MINAE) and the forest rangers or are in the process of recovering from injuries while others have been in captivity and consequently are not able to be immediately integrated into the wild.
